![]() When riding atop certain creatures, players may still be able to use weapons. ![]() As well, most creatures can be ridden, and therefore allow the player to utilize the creature's abilities, such as flight or fast underwater movement. Once a creature is tamed, it will follow the commands of the player who tamed them. ![]() Some creatures can also be tamed passively, by approaching them and carefully giving them food. Most creatures tame most effectively - and quickest - with a food called Kibble, which is an item crafted using eggs from another creature. Different foods help tame animals at varying speeds. Once knocked out, the player must feed the creature their preferred food, such as berries for herbivores or raw meat for carnivores. Players are able to use narco berries, or craft narcotics from narco berries and spoiled meat. Some dinosaurs take longer than others to tame, therefore require more narcotics. Oftentimes players will need to keep the dinosaur sedated for the duration of the tame. Most creatures are a "knock out" tame, meaning the players must knock the creature out using tranquilizer projectiles or by using blunt weapons, such as a club. The taming method varies from creature to creature. The majority of creatures can be tamed by the player, though some, such as Meganeura or Titanomyrma, cannot. One of the primary game mechanics of the game is taming creatures. As expansions were released, completely original creatures, such as the Karkinos and the Velonasaur, also made their way into the game, as well as original robotic creatures such as the Enforcer and Scout. In the early versions of the game, nearly all creatures were real dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures, but as the storyline progressed, mythical creatures such as the wyvern, griffin, golem, and phoenix were added. There are currently 194 creatures that populate the world of Ark. The game's world, known as the "Ark", is approximately 48 km 2 (19 sq mi) in size: : 20:20 there is approximately 36 km 2 (14 sq mi) of land with 12 km 2 (4.6 sq mi) of ocean. To survive, players must establish a base, with a fire and weapons additional activities, such as taming and feeding dinosaurs, require more resources. Gameplay Īrk: Survival Evolved is an action-adventure survival game set in an open world environment with a dynamic day-night cycle and played either from a third-person or first-person perspective. The game received two spin-off games in March 2018- virtual reality game Ark Park and sandbox survival game PixArk-and three companion apps: A-Calc in October 2015, Dododex in August 2017, and ARKing in September 2023.Ī remake, Ark: Survival Ascended, was released in early access for Windows on October 25, 2023. Several expansions to the game have been released as downloadable content. The game was officially released in August 2017 for Linux, macOS, PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One, with versions for Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch in 2018, a version for Stadia in 2021, and a second, separate Nintendo Switch version in 2022.Īrk: Survival Evolved received generally mixed reviews, with criticism for its "punishing" difficulty and excruciatingly time consuming activities, reliance on grinding, and performance issues, particularly on the original Nintendo Switch version. Instinct Games, Efecto Studios, and Virtual Basement were hired to facilitate the game's development. The development team conducted research into the physical appearance of the animals but took a creative license for gameplay purposes. There is a PvE mode where players cannot fight each other unless a specific war event agreed upon by both parties is triggered.ĭevelopment began in October 2014, when it was first released on PC as an early access title in the middle of 2015. In this mode, all tamed dinosaurs and building structures are usually shared between the members. The max number of tribe mates varies from each server. Multiplayer allows the option to form tribes of players in a server. The game has both single-player and multiplayer options. Players can use firearms and improvised weapons to defend against hostile humans and creatures, with the ability to build bases as a defense on the ground and on some creatures. The game is played from either a third-person or first-person perspective and its open world is navigated by foot or by riding a prehistoric animal. In the game, players must survive being stranded on one of several maps filled with roaming dinosaurs, fictional fantasy monsters, and other prehistoric animals, natural hazards, and potentially hostile human players. ![]() Ark: Survival Evolved (stylized as ARK) is a 2015 action-adventure survival video game developed by Studio Wildcard. ![]() ![]()

![]() ![]() It’s shown that the early history of “Keep Calm and Carry On” is particularly intriguing, as it doesn’t quite confirm the settled notions and assumptions of our time. A question of toneĪ four-year research project on the Ministry of Information being undertaken by the University of London’s Institute of English Studies and King’s College London is shedding new light on the previously hidden parts of the poster’s history. It was the very fact that the poster was hidden until 2001 that allowed it to go viral. It’s hard to imagine such that rapid commercialisation could have taken hold in the pre-internet age. Another reason might be to do with its message of sober restraint, which chimes with expectations about the history of World War II and was appropriated by many commentators during the recent economic downturn.Īnd then fundamental to this are the technological advances that have made the slogan’s reproduction and manipulation so easy. The timeless nature of the stylistic and predominantly textual design goes some way towards explaining this. So here we have a poster that was not even used for its original purpose during the war yet has seen mass popularity upon its rediscovery. This even led to a series of legal battles over copyright during 2011-13 (with UK courts concluding that the design was covered by Crown Copyright rules and was now firmly in the public domain). Other companies followed suit and versions of the “Keep Calm” message were soon being attached to a bewildering array of products. The Manleys decided to display the poster it in their shop and began to sell reproductions in 2001. It was found in 2000 within a box of books bought at auction by Stuart and Mary Manley, the owners of a second hand book shop in Alnwick, Northumberland. This would all change when a dusty copy of the “Keep Calm” poster was re-discovered at the turn of the 21st century. Some of the posters had been distributed to police stations for safe-keeping and were accidentally overlooked, but even these remained hidden from view for more than 60 years. ![]() Only a handful of the originals survived when stocks were pulped during an extensive wartime recycling campaign. But its display was never officially authorised, and so never went ahead. It was designed to lead a series of three “Home Publicity” posters that would be issued in the event of war and 2.45 million copies were printed in the days before World War II was declared. The slogan was coined following a meeting between Ministry of Information officials and the Treasury on 27 June 1939. It also obscures the complicated history of a poster that was designed on this day 75 years ago, but surprisingly was not seen in public until very recently, in 2001. This pervasiveness has served to reinforce a popular view of life on the Home Front during World War II. Its formula is instantly recognisable, whether referring to zombies or knitting. An engraving shop on my daily commute even invokes its customers to “Keep Calm and Order Signage”. Its resilient message has become extraordinarily commonplace, with the phrase used to sell everything from mugs to flight bags and baby clothes. “Keep Calm and Carry On” is now one of the most recognisable slogans in British history. ![]() ![]() But there are practical and historical reasons for saving it. Historic plaster may first appear so fraught with problems that its total removal seems the only alternative. This variety and the adaptability of the material to nearly any building size, shape, or configuration meant that plaster was the wall surface chosen for nearly all buildings until the 1930s or 40s. Plaster could be treated in any number of ways: it could receive stenciling, decorative painting, wallpaper, or whitewash. It provided a durable surface that was easy to clean and that could be applied to flat or curved walls and ceilings. Technical Preservation Services (TPS), Heritage Preservation Services Division, National Park Service prepares standards, guidelines, and other educational materials on responsible historic preservation treatments to a broad public.Ī versatile material, plaster could be applied over brick, stone, half-timber, or frame construction. Other than repairs or an occasional addition we hardly ever do it anymore. This publication has been prepared pursuant to the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended, which directs the Secretary of the Interior to develop and make available information concerning historic properties. Plaster when done right in my opinion is a far superior product however due to the labor and cost involved it is a dying art. My family has a business and we have done this for four generations or over 75 years. Other than repairs or an occasional addition we hardly ever do it anymore. ![]() A good primer and a quality paint job of the entire room is also recommended. The finish will be different however if it is on a opposite wall or if done by a skilled craftsman the normal person will not notice it at first glance. Now to answer your question, you will not have the same looking wall if you "drywall" the new wall. Once it is set he will then use a damp brush called a felt to "lightly brush" the wall smooth as silk. He will use a drop light to check the wall for imperfections as he trowels. As he trowels he will sprinkle or throw a little water on the wall with a calamine brush as he trowels it smooth. After the mixture begins to set the Plasterer will trowel it smooth. So you now have a scratch coat and two lime coats on the wall. The plaster is then applied to the wall once all around the room and then a second time with the same batch. The Plasterer will adjust the mixture to set as needed. The gauging comes in quick set as well as slow set. Once it is on the mortar board the gauging is added to it. The lime is mixed with water and then put on a mortar board. This consists of lime and what is called gauging. The scratch/brown coat also has silica sand mixed in it.This coat looks like and is as strong as cement.Īfter this coat dries a second coat or finish/white coat is applied. The seams are first taped with fiberglass or mesh tape then a scratch coat or brown coat is applied to the entire wall. It is a 4 x 8 or longer piece of wallboard with three coats of plaster on it. ![]() ![]() ![]() Note 1: Examples of increased or additional hazards include interruption of life support equipment, deactivation of emergency alarm systems, shutdown of hazardous location ventilation equipment, or removal of illumination for an area. In addressing work on electrical equipment, 1910.333(a)(1) states: The following sections of standard CFR Part 1910 promote the safety of employees working on or near electrical equipment, and clearly define employers' responsibilities:Įquipment must be deenergized before work is performed! ![]() OSHA regulations were developed to mandate that employers provide a safe workplace for their employees. It is the end user and/or installer’s responsibility to properly specify the needed short circuit performance required. It is now clear in Article 409 and 670, that equipment installed under these sections must have a SCCR and or available fault current greater than the maximum available fault current at their location and have the equipment SCCR marked by the manufacturer. The following sections now call for proper field labeling of equipment with the maximum short circuit current available at the line terminals of that equipment: The first step in properly selecting adequate short circuit ratings is to know the available fault current. Over the past several cycles the NEC has added and modified sections to more effectively address this issue. Inadequate short circuit ratings (both AIR and SCCR) are on the list of causes of arc flash events. Section 110-16, Flash Hazard Warning, requires markings on switchboards, panelboards, industrial control panels and motor control centers to warn qualified persons of potential arc flash hazards. While the National Electrical Code (NEC) has traditionally addressed proper installation techniques intended to prevent fire, electrocution and shock hazard, it now contains requirements related to arc flash hazards. The last two editions have significantly improved the coverage of risk management concepts. In the 1995 edition, arc flash hazards started to be addressed with addition of "arc flash hazard boundaries." Through extensive work, more details on protecting workers against arc flash hazards have been included in subsequent editions. The first several editions of the standard, originally titled "Standard for Electrical Safety Requirements for Employee Workplaces," primarily focused on the prevention of electrocution. ![]() Using Windows Backup to restore to a Windows 11 PC requires you to sign in during initial device set-up with the same Microsoft account you used for Windows 10 PC backup. In my case, the controllers weren’t detected in any app, not even in Unity when developing for VR. Where to look to perform a quick calibration (sorry for the Italian language of my PC) There are anyway other tools that can help in configuring it properly. If games work this way, you can avoid getting crazy to have your VR controllers detected inside Room Setup and play happily your VR games, even if your Chaperone borders won’t reflect your real room configuration. Before doing that, please put your headset on the ground, in the center of your play area, so that the resulting Chaperone borders will give you a good experience. To perform a fast and rough room configuration, you can go into SteamVR settings and then choose the Developer Tab and look for the “Room and monitoring” section, where you can select a preset room configuration inside the drop-down menu and then hit the “Quick Calibration” button. If the answer is yes, well, you can survive even without launching Room Setup. So, the first thing to do if the various reboots didn’t work is trying opening a SteamVR game and see if there the controllers work (you can see and move them). ![]() Someone had this problem only happening in the Room Setup app, while in all the other applications, everything worked like a charm. Otherwise, contact HTC support to have your Vive fixed (good luck with that). If the headset does work on the other PC (like in my case), then there is some software problem with SteamVR. This way you can exclude some hardware failure. Try your Vive headset on another PC, if you can. So, another thing that you can try is verifying if the issue is due to some problems of the USB port that you chose: try disconnecting the Vive box from the current USB that it is connected to and try plugging it into other USB ports (try different setups, like front/back ports, USB 2/USB 3 ports, etc…). In lots of cases, it solves all the issues you can have with your Vive.īut sometimes, this is strangely not enough (as in my case). This is the most simple but also most effective advice. Shut down your Vive headset, controllers and Lighthouses and turn them on again.Unplug all the devices from the USB and plug them again. But don’t reveal it to others, because it is a top secret between we IT guys: So, I did the first solution that I advise you all. As you can see, the headset got correctly detected, while the controllers were reported as shut down… but this was not true So I launched SteamVR Room Setup, and it continued saying that my controllers were turned off when actually they were turned on. And when I put the headset on, I could see the grey intro environment, with all the controllers moving regularly. So I installed the Lighthouse stations, the Link box, and all the Vive stuff, then I launched SteamVR and I was pleased to see that all the icons in my SteamVR status bar were green. I bought my Vive to experiment with 7Invensun eye tracking and I was really enthusiast about trying eye-tracked UX. |
